About the Artist
Ashley is a plein air watercolor artist originally from Virginia, using art as a catalyst to hike and rock climb to vantage points in search of compositions. This has landed her mostly across the western US. She finds connection with her environment through painting, mirroring natural hues and impressions of the world as it is in front of her.
She’s interested in rock textures most brought to life by the pen’s sharp edge. A highlight in her artmaking was to perch on the heart ledges, halfway up El Capitan in Yosemite to sketch the valley walls beyond. Ashley drove across the country in her van to explore the rich American landscape, ending her extended trip in 2019 settling in Seattle. After four years of drawing and painting the Pacific Northwest, she moved to Bishop, CA to be closer to her favorite rocks and mountains.
